Injured Springboks skipper Jean de Villiers has withdrawn from a three-day national training camp that starts in Durban Sunday.

Knee discomfort forced the centre to withdraw from the Western Stormers side that played Central Cheetahs in Super Rugby on Saturday.

De Villiers, 33, will undergo a scope in Cape Town Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.

Coach Heyneke Meyer has not replaced the back in a 36-man home-based squad, calling up Coastal Sharks lock Stephan Lewies instead.

Meyer said Lewies starred on the Sharks' Australasian tour in which the Super Rugby leaders won three of four matches.

South Africa host an exhibition game against a World XV, two Tests against Wales and one against Scotland during June.
