Spurs' Mills stars, Maker makes NBA debut

It was a banner day for Australian guards in the NBA on Sunday, with Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Dante Exum all registering double-figure points.

Patty Mills' importance to San Antonio continues to grow, with the Australian guard again coming up big for the unbeaten Spurs in their NBA away win over Miami.

Mills joined fellow Boomers playmakers Matthew Dellavedova and Dante Exum in scoring in double figures for their teams, while Australian No.10 draft pick Thon Maker played his first minutes for Milwaukee on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT).

Mills, 28, was relegated from the starting five following his 18 points against New Orleans two days ago, with veteran guard Tony Parker returning to the line-up in Miami.

But the Boomer was productive off the bench, sinking four three-pointers on his way to 18 points again in the Spurs' 106-99 win over the Heat for their fourth win of the new season.

Fellow Rio Olympian Dellavedova had 10 points and five assists starting in the Bucks' 98-83 loss to Detroit, with countryman and Pistons' big man Aron Baynes pulling down seven boards with seven points.

Rookie Bucks centre Maker entered the game with less than two minutes remaining for his NBA debut.

Exum bucketed a season-high 10 points for Utah in their 88-75 loss to Los Angeles Clippers, with the guard increasing his time on court from previous outings following his return from a ruptured ACL.

His Australian teammate Joe Ingles managed eight points and an equal team-high three assists.
