Patty Mills and Aron Baynes won NBA bragging rights over their Australian Boomers teammate Andrew Bogut after the San Antonio Spurs held off a fast-finishing Golden State Warriors on Friday night.
The Spurs led comfortably at every change and, despite fading in the final quarter, hung on for a 76-74 victory at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
In a bit of an anti-climax after an impressive Warriors fightback, neither team scored in the final two minutes and 23 seconds.
It was the first clash between the teams since the second round of the Western Conference playoffs last season, which the Spurs won 4-2.
Bogut did his best work in defence and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while scoring just six points from three-of-seven shooting.
The Warriors struggled without star guard Stephen Curry, who didn't play after bruising his left ankle on Wednesday against Minnesota, and weren't helped by Klay Thompson's dismal shooting.
The guard converted just five of 16 field-goal attempts while Toney Douglas top-scored for the visitors with 21 points.
Mills (six points) and Baynes (five points and six rebounds) made solid contributions off the bench to help the Spurs win their 28th straight regular-season home game against Golden State.
San Antonio relied on Tony Parker's 18 points while Kawhi Leonard added 13 points for the Spurs, who improved to a conference-best 5-1 for the season.
