Sri Lanka, after losing the toss, were 2-74 at lunch on Friday's first day of the second Test against England at Headingley.
Kumar Sangakkara was 16 not out and Mahela Jayawardene six not out.
James Anderson and Liam Plunkett took a wicket each as Sri Lanka crawled to lunch after England captain Alastair Cook had won the toss.
Kaushal Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne took Sri Lanka to 37 in the first hour before Silva edged Anderson through to Matt Prior for England's breakthrough. Silva had made 13.
Sangakkara survived a run-out appeal in the next over when Karunaratne refused a single. Stuart Broad's throw missed the stumps before Prior followed up, but replays showed he was safe.
Plunkett bowled Karunaratne for 28 from around the wicket in his first over, removing leg stump, before Jayawardene and Sangakkara saw out the remaining overs to lunch.
The two-match series is level at 0-0 after Monday's draw in the first Test at Lord's.
