Hasaranga de Silva took a hat-trick on debut and fellow spinner Lakshan Sandakan claimed four wickets as Sri Lanka thrashed Zimbabwe in the second one-day international to level the five-match series 1-1 on Sunday.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews asked Zimbabwe to bat first and they were bowled out for a mediocre 155 runs.

In the process, De Silva became the third bowler to take a hat-trick on ODI debut.

De Silva polished off the Zimbabwe tail in the 34th over by first bowling out Malcolm Waller (38) off the inside edge.

He trapped Donald Tiripano next ball and then bowled Tendai Chatara.

His bowling backed up the effort by left-arm wrist spinner Sandakan who ran through the Zimbabwe batting line-up with 4-52, his career-best ODI figures.

In reply Sri Lanka lost two wickets for 10 runs and the third at 77.

But Upul Tharanga with an unbeaten 75 sealed the match for the hosts.

Zimbabwe won the first match by six wickets.
