Star Fever duo aim to become more powerful

West Coast Fever will be aiming to cement their spot on top of the ladder by beating Sunshine Coast Lightning in a Saturday night blockbuster in Perth.

Star goal attack Nat Medhurst is confident her powerful combination with Jhaniele Fowler can get even better as the West Coast Fever edge closer towards locking down a top-two berth.

The Fever sit four points clear on top of the Super Netball ladder with just five rounds remaining, and are eight points ahead of the third-placed Vixens.

However, with teams able to secure as many as eight competition points per game because of bonus points, the Fever know they have plenty of work to do to stay in the top two.

The arrival of Fowler has helped turn West Coast into a force to be reckoned with.

The 196cm Jamaican has scored 505 goals this season - 136 more than her nearest rival.

Medhurst has scored just 76 goals this year, but her assists to Fowler have been crucial.

The 34-year-old sits second in the league for goal assists, and she believes her partnership with Fowler can get even better.

"We're getting a greater understanding and we're continuing to challenge each other as well," Medhurst said.

"I challenge her on things that I feel I need from her, and vice-versa.

"For us to keep being unpredictable as a unit, we need to keep finding different ways.

"That's the beauty of our combination - we still think we've got a lot more to give - not only to the team, but to each other."

The Lightning are in fifth spot on 39 points, but a win over the Fever will bring them back into the top-two calculations.

Fever knocked off the Lightning 56-55 in a thriller in round three, and Medhurst is expecting another tight contest.
