State-of-art MRI suite opened in WA

A new MRI suite for patients needing complex neurosurgery has been opened at Perth's Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

A $21 million state-of-the-art MRI suite for patients needing complex neurosurgery has been opened at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.

Jointly funded by the federal and Western Australian governments, the Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging suite has been named after respected WA neurosurgeon Professor Neville Knuckey.

"When coupled with real-time imaging during surgery, this provides for significantly more precise procedures, promising improved outcomes for patients," federal Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health Ken Wyatt said in a statement on Friday.

WA Health Minister Roger Cook said the suite was "best-practice technology that will help save lives and change lives for the better".

"This marks a significant milestone for Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the North Metropolitan Health Service and WA Health," he said.
