States to raise cuts to legal services

Attorneys-general are due to raise cuts to legal services with their federal counterpart at a meeting which will also discuss ice and domestic violence.

Measures to combat domestic violence and the use of the drug ice will be discussed when attorneys-general, justice and police ministers from across the country gather in Canberra.

But commonwealth funding cuts for community legal centres will also be on the agenda when the third meeting of the Law, Crime and Community Safety Council takes place on Friday.

Attorneys-general from five states and the Australian Capital Territory on Tuesday wrote to federal counterpart George Brandis calling on him to reconsider the changes outlined in the budget.

National security and options to boost ties between CrimTrac and the Australian Crime Commission are among other issues to be addressed, as well as the implementation of a national strategy for disaster resilience.
