Stenson reveals knee damage problem

British Open champion Henrik Stenson says he has a slight tear in his right meniscus that causes discomfort when he walks, but not when he plays.

Stenson withdrew after the first round of The Barclays last week with pain in his right knee. He had surgery in the offseason to repair his meniscus. Tests last week revealed a slight tear in a different spot in the right knee.

The 40-year-old Swede says he can feel it after walking 18 holes and that side hills are difficult. But he says it doesn't affect his golf shots, and he has no problem playing the Deutsche Bank Championship this week or the Ryder Cup that starts Sept. 30.

Along with winning The Open, Stenson won a silver medal at the Olympics.
