Stephanie Gilmore inducted into surfing hall of fame

Five-time champion Stephanie Gilmore has been inducted into Surfing Australia's hall of fame and named female surfer of the year.

Five-time champion Stephanie Gilmore was inducted into Surfing Australia's hall of fame and named female surfer of the year on Wednesday.

Joel Parkinson, who took home his first ASP World Tour title in 2012, was named male surfer of the year at the annual awards presented in Sydney.

Australia's peak surf organisation also unveiled its 10 most influential surfers of the past 50 years to mark its 50th anniversary.

Five-time world champion Mark Richards heads the list, followed by the inventor of the Thruster surfboard Simon Anderson, with Nat Young in third spot, Australia's first surfing world champion "Midget" Farrelly fifth and seven-time women's world champion Layne Beachley at number seven.
