Sth Africa win toss, bat in 1st India ODI

South Africa will bat after winning the toss and choosing to bat in the first of six one-day internationals against India at Kingsmead.

South African captain Faf du Plessis has won the toss and chosen to bat in the first of six one-day internationals against India in Durban.

The teams continue their rivalry from the recent Test series, although the roles are reversed for the one-dayers. South Africa are the top-ranked team and India are No. 2.

South Africa have selected Aiden Markram to bat at No.4 in place of the injured AB de Villiers, who will miss the first three games with a right index finger problem.

South Africa also picked allrounders Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo for Thursday's opening game at Kingsmead.

India brought in six players who didn't feature in the final Test: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will open the batting, MS Dhoni is in at No.5, Kedar Jadhav is at six and spin bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal also come into the team.

India trail South Africa by just one rating point in the ODI rankings so can go to No.1 if they win this series.

SOUTH AFRICA:

Faf du Plessis (capt), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, JP Duminy, David Miller, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir.

INDIA:

Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal.
