A 61-year-old woman who was crossing the road in Bondi is now in hospital with a broken arm after she was knocked over by a stolen car.

A woman has a broken arm after being hit by a stolen car in Sydney's east.

The 61-year-old was crossing the street in Bondi about 9.30pm on Saturday, when she was struck by a purple Suzuki Baleno and knocked to the road, breaking her arm.

The driver, who stopped and briefly spoke to witnesses before driving off, has been described as 178cm tall, with short shaved hair.

Police say the car, with a registration AFD 67L, was stolen shortly before the accident and are asking the public to call 000 if they see it.
