Melbourne have confirmed centre Cheyse Blair is out for the rest of the NRL season, requiring a second round of surgery on his ankle.

In his first match back from the initial injury last Saturday night against Parramatta, Blair limped off midway through first half at AAMI Park.

Further scans on Tuesday confirmed a fracture. The 25-year-old will undergo surgery on Monday.

Storm football director Frank Ponissi said the news was a blow for Blair, who was part of their grand final line-up and had been playing well until the injury.

"Cheyse was having a good follow-up season to last year so to see his year cut short is extremely disappointing," Ponissi said.

"Given the depth we have shown during the Origin period, the challenge is now there for our younger players to step up and continue the promising signs they have shown."

Youngster Curtis Scott is likely to fill the centre vacancy after impressing with his opportunities so far this season after overcoming a broken leg.

The Storm have the bye this weekend before travelling to Canberra on July 22 to take on the Raiders.
