Storm grand final player ratings

Player ratings for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL grand final, which they lost 21-6 to the Sydney Roosters.

BILLY SLATER: Unfortunate end to one of the great careers. Strangled at the back by the Roosters' fierce kick-chase and only had small windows of opportunity on attack. 6

SULIASI VUNIVALU: Barely saw open space. Was at fault for Roosters' first try when he gave Daniel Tupou too much space. Proficient under the high ball with one notable exception. 6

WILL CHAMBERS: Will have more nightmares about Latrell Mitchell. Got cleanly stepped by the young Rooster to concede a try and never found a way past him on attack. Lost his rag when the pair squared off. 3.5

CURTIS SCOTT: Ran aggressively but down dead ends most of the time. Ball control was an issue and opposite Joseph Manu had his number. 6.5

JOSH ADDO-CARR: Well down on the confidence he needs to thrive. Rattled at times against more physical opposites but burst into life with a trademark 80m intercept try. 6

CAMERON MUNSTER: Nothing short of a disaster. Sin binned twice, the second for an unseemly, if gentle, boot to the head of a prone Joseph Manu. Botched a try when he threw a dummy with numbers outside and too error-prone. 1.5

BRODIE CROFT: Decent display in a team outplayed in all departments. Kicked soundly, though mostly from field position which was far from ideal. Inhibited by an apparent elbow injury. 7

JESSE BROMWICH: Solid and at times imposing but lacked the impact of opposite Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in the battle of the Kiwi big boppers. 6.5

CAMERON SMITH: Looked better in the second spell when he started to run but couldn't find a way to isolate a fragile Cooper Cronk. Made a game-high 46 tackles. 6.5

TIM GLASBY: Limited minutes and limited impact as the Roosters forwards marched forward in the opening quarter. 5.5

FELISE KAUFUSI: Great season, forgettable grand final. Busy but handling let him down, with the first spill leading to the Roosters' opening try. 5.5

JOE STIMSON: Would have loved to run at Cronk but hardly ever did. Defensive workload was hefty. 5.5

DALE FINUCANE: Melbourne's best in the first half with his muscular middle efforts. Seemed in discomfort after the break and exited briefly for a head injury assessment. 7.5

KENNY BROMWICH: The epitome of solid but unspectacular. 6

CHRISTIAN WELCH: Likewise worked like a trojan but was part of a bench which didn't bring the impact the Storm needed. 6

BRANDON SMITH: Some sharp work in his short stint on the park. 6

NELSON ASOFA-SOLOMONA: Bad spill led to a Roosters try. He also took out Cronk off the ball to deprive the Storm of a likely try. 4.5
