Storm prop Bromwich leading from front

Melbourne Storm prop Jesse Bromwich is already one of the NRL's best props but has been working hard to add more variety to his game.

He's already one of the premier props in the NRL but Melbourne Storm's Jesse Bromwich isn't ready to rest on his laurels.

Bromwich turned in a stand-out performance in Melbourne's nine-try 48-6 romp against the undermanned Cronulla at AAMI Park

The Kiwi international topped the tally for run metres with 207 - even besting Cronulla workhorse skipper Paul Gallen and he made 19 tackles.

But Bromich added tryscorer, as he barrelled over late in the first half, as well as try-assist to his impressive stats sheet when he offloaded a superb ball for teammate Tim Glasby.

He said that he had been trying to bring more variety to his game.

"It was nice to get a try because it was only my second one for the year," Bromwich said.

"I'm trying to use the ball a bit more because other teams have been coming out a bit harder at me.

"I'm trying to change it up so I don't become one dimensional all the time."

It's no wonder Bromwich ended up a Storm boy when the players he models his game on also wore the famed purple strip.

The 25-year-old said he grew up a huge fan of former Storm players Stephen Kearney and David Kidwell.

"Those boys, as well as Ruben Wiki, I used to watch them all the time and wanted to be them."

Coach Craig Bellamy couldn't be happier with the way Bromwich is working to add to his reportaire.

"He was outstanding for us", Bellamy said.

"I think he had more runs than tackles in the first half.

"He really rolled his sleeves up and you couldn't be happier with how he's playing.

"And certainly defensively he is strong as well, so he is having one hell of a season."

The Sharks match was must-win for the Storm after their shock last-gasp loss to Newcastle.

They face fellow contenders Penrith, Roosters and the Broncos in a tough road to the finals.

Bromwich felt they were back on track.

"Our defence is definitely where we wanted it.

"After giving up that lead last week, we were pretty filthy on ourselves and wanted to give a better defensive performance and points just come up defending that good."

Meanwhile the Storm could be without Bromwich's brother Kenny for up to two weeks after he injured his elbow at training before the Sharks game.
