Stormers sign Argentina's Carizza

Argentine lock Manuel Carizza will join South African Super Rugby franchise the Stormers following a European tour this month.

South Africa's Stormers Super Rugby team has signed Argentina lock Manuel Carizza.

The Stormers say Carizza will join after Argentina's November tour to Europe to play England, Wales and Italy.

Carizza has played for Biarritz and Racing Metro in France's Top 14.

The Stormers also say the 2.02-metre second rower has featured in 11 of Argentina's 12 tests in the Rugby Championship over the past two years, underlining his familiarity with southern hemisphere competition.

Carizza, 29, made his test debut against South Africa in 2004.

The Cape Town-based Stormers lost a final and two semifinals in Super Rugby from 2010-2012, then missed out on the playoffs completely this year.

The 2014 season starts on February 15 with the Stormers' first match a week later.
