Canterbury enforcer Sam Kasiano is at the top of Melbourne's recruitment list, with Craig Bellamy saying he'd be a perfect fit for the NRL club.
The Storm coach confirmed on Thursday the club were chasing Kasiano, seeing him as an ideal replacement for North Queensland-bound prop Jordan McLean.
"Losing Jordan takes a bit of size out of our team and we'd love to have Sam here," Bellamy said.
"There's no secret we're trying to get him, although I'm not quite sure the Bulldogs will want to release him. But, they've made a couple of big buys so they're going to have to let a few guys go so, hopefully for us, Sam is one."
After signing playmaker Kieran Foran this week and Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods, the Bulldogs will need to shed some stars.
Kasiano is contracted to Canterbury until the end of 2018, but it's believed they are unlikely to stand in his way if the Storm are offering a long-term deal.
Bellamy said he'd been impressed by the 26-year-old's skill as well as his size and believed he would fit into the Storm's style of play.
As well as McLean, the Storm are set to lose Kiwi international Tohu Harris to the Warriors, just a year after Kevin Proctor's switch to Gold Coast.
Hulking prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona is also off contract at the end of this season.
