Samantha Stosur has upset Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard to reach the Connecticut Open quarter-finals in a big US Open confidence booster.

Stosur thrashed the world No.8 in straight sets to post successive wins for the first time since the French Open in early June.

The Australian wildcard won 6-2 6-2 and will play Kirsten Flipkens for a spot in the last four after the Belgian came from behind to beat German Andrea Petkovic 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (8-6).

Bouchard, the only woman to make the semi-finals at least of the season's first three grand slam events, admitted she felt powerless against Stosur, who dropped just seven points on her first serve throughout the entire match.

"She came out firing. I thought I was going to be able to attack more but I couldn't," the Canadian said.

"Sam was serving amazing and hitting amazing shots. You have to give her credit."

Stosur was in complete control from the outset, breaking Bouchard four times and saving all four break points on her own serve.

"I played really well from the first point to the last and really made life difficult for her," Stosur said. "I'm really pleased with my performance."

The 2011 US Open champion, Stosur has slipped to No.25 in the world and been seeded 24th for the New York major starting on Monday.
