String of animal shootings investigated

The RSPCA and NSW police are joining forces to investigate a string of animal shootings in Sydney.

A female goat, shot through the shoulder with an arrow, is recovering as police and the RSPCA investigate a string of animal shootings in Sydney's west.

An elderly property owner on Wednesday morning discovered one of his female goats had been shot through the shoulder in a rural part of Wetherill Park.

It's thought she was shot during the night. Hours later, the goat was taken to Yagoona RSPCA for treatment.

An RSPCA spokeswoman told AAP it was the latest of a string of similar incidents in Sydney's west and south-west over the past three weeks.

Two goats died after being shot with arrows in Blacktown - the same suburb where other goats were found with broken bones.

A kangaroo, shot in the St Mary's area, has been spotted with the arrow still lodged in its wound but has evaded capture, the spokeswoman said.

Police are urging anyone with information about any of the incidents to come forward.
