Strong govt spending adds to growth

Public sector spending rose 2.6 per cent in the June quarter and will add 0.6 percentage points to economic growth.

Public sector spending rose strongly in the June quarter, adding to economic growth.

Government consumption spending, mainly the goods and services used in the provision of government services, rose 2.2 per cent in the three months to June, after allowing for price changes and regular seasonal fluctuations.

Public sector fixed capital investment rose 4.0 per cent.

Total public sector spending rose 2.6 per cent, which will add 0.6 percentage points to growth in gross domestic product (GDP), which will be reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.
