Struggle Street a ratings winner for SBS

The final episode of controversial documentary Struggle Street was watched by more than 800,000 Australians, making it 8th overall in the TV ratings.

The second and final episode of the controversial documentary Struggle Street may have left viewers disgusted but SBS is cheering after success in the ratings.

Struggle Street, on SBS One, was watched by 828,000 Australians on Wednesday night, making it the 8th most popular program.

The figure is slightly down on the ratings for last week's first episode, which attracted a record audience of 935,000 - the broadcaster's highest ever rating locally made show.

The final episode, shown in a two hour block, caused outrage on Twitter after a heavily pregnant woman was filmed smoking a makeshift bong.

Nine News topped the ratings (1.177 million), while Network Ten's reality cooking show MasterChef was the most popular non-news program with just over a million viewers, according to OzTAM's overnight ratings.
