Suli can learn and return in week: Hasler

Des Hasler says Moses Suli's axing for failing to meet performance standards is part of a learning curve for the centre but he could return next week.

Moses Suli can consider his axing for failing to meet performances standards a lesson, says Manly coach Des Hasler, yet his absence from the NRL may last just one week.

Hasler remained tight-lipped about Suli's non-selection on Friday, other than to confirm the talented centre's problems did not relate to an integrity matter.

It came after the Sea Eagles said on Tuesday Suli hadn't been picked based on "disciplinary performance standards", without revealing further details.

"It's not attitude, there are just certain standards that we insist on and he didn't comply. It's as simple as that," Hasler said.

"I won't go into the standards. It's not a big incident; it's just a learning curve for a young footballer who has plenty of potential.

"He understood and was very remorseful but he will probably be back next week (against Newcastle) if he complies."

A talented junior signed to a big-money deal at the Wests Tigers two years ago, Suli was axed by them and then Canterbury before last season for failing to attend training on time.

He last month spoke about how he was thriving under the leadership of Hasler at Manly and the 12kg he dropped over the off-season.

Brendan Elliot will play right centre in Suli's place this week after previously filling in for Tom Trbojevic at the back, with Brad Parker on the left.

Meanwhile Hasler said he expected Trbojevic to launch off last week's high base in the coming weeks, after he set up two tries and scored two last week against the Warriors.

"We expect Tom to build on that," Hasler said.

It's just called presence; that's probably something Tom is warming to and other players of his pedigree bring to a side.

"That's what you want, that's how a player develops."
