American Daniel Summerhays shot a nine-under-par 63 on Thursday to seize the lead at the PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms Championship before the first round was suspended because of poor weather.
Summerhays was in position to win his first PGA Tour title last week. But he ended up squandering a third-round lead and finished just one shot back of eventual winner Jordan Spieth at the John Deere Classic in Illinois.
Summerhays rolled in seven birdies and an eagle on Thursday to reach the clubhouse with the lead before heavy rain and lightning slammed into the Annandale Golf Club course. The first round will resume on Friday morning.
Will Claxton, Michael Bradley and Jonathan Randolph are tied for second after posting opening-round 66s, while Bill Lunde, Dicky Pride, Skip Kendall, Peter Lonard, DJ Trahan, Chad Campbell and Donald Constable share fifth at five-under 67.
South Africa's Rory Sabbatini and Jeff Overton are in the clubhouse at four-under 68, and Kevin Kisner is minus-four through six first-round holes.
