Suncorp is looking for a new chief information officer after Matt Pancino resigned.

Mr Pancino will step down on April 29 and chief transformation officer Clayton Herbert will take on responsibility for Suncorp's digital initiatives, cloud and infrastructure services, and innovation labs until a permanent successor is found.

Chief executive Michael Cameron says the Brisbane-based insurer will consider external and internal candidates.

Mr Pancino was promoted from chief information officer to chief executive of business services in June 2014, but returned to his previous role following a restructure in February.
