Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade is keen to retain key defender Rory Thompson, amid reports the 24-year-old could be on his way out of the AFL club.
Thompson is one of several Suns coming off contract at the end of the season.
News Corp Australia reported earlier this week the Suns were unwilling to meet Thompson's demands, believed to be in the vicinity of $500,000 per season.
Thompson emerged as one of the brightest prospects at the Suns with a 21-game campaign in 2013.
The 200cm foundation Sun has however had injury setbacks in the past two seasons, with Steven May eclipsing him as the club's premier defender.
But Eade says he has every intention of keeping hold of Thompson and a resolution is close.
"It's hopefully not far away," Eade said.
"Unfortunately he's had injuries for two years and been up and down a bit. He has said he wants to stay and we want to keep him.
"Hopefully next week we can announce that."
Eade said in-form midfielder Aaron Hall is also closing to securing a new deal, as is vice-captain Michael Rischitelli.
The future of in-demand forward Charlie Dixon remains up in the air however.
The Suns have put an offer to the 24-year-old but he is reportedly a target of several clubs including Brisbane, Geelong and Port Adelaide.
"His manager has said that'll be at the end of the season," Eade said.
"We're no more advanced or aware of what's happening."
