Suns get triple boost for Swans clash

Gold Coast trio Rory Thompson, Trent McKenzie and Danny Stanley are all set to start in Sunday's AFL match against Sydney despite injury concerns.

Gold Coast's hopes of stopping Sydney's red-hot forward line has been given a triple boost on the eve of Sunday's AFL clash at Metricon Stadium.

Defenders Rory Thompson and Trent McKenzie along with experienced midfielder Danny Stanley, have all been cleared to play against the Swans after training on Saturday.

Thompson's return from a wrist injury will be a big plus for the Suns as they prepare to stop Swans' trio Lance Franklin, Kurt Tippett and Adam Goodes.

The key defender missed the Suns' past two encounters and defensive coach Dean Solomon said Thompson's return would provide much-needed assistance to fullback Steven May.

"It's great to have him back," Solomon said.

"He's been a great defender over the last 18 months and it'll be great for him and Maysie to spend some time playing in the same side."

McKenzie and Stanley were both considered highly doubtful after sustaining shoulder injuries in last week's loss to Adelaide.

Solomon said both had recovered better than expected and will line-up against the Swans, as will former rugby league star Karmichael Hunt, who'll make his first AFL appearance this year from the interchange bench.

The Swans are seeking their seventh win in a row and have unsurprisingly made no change to the line-up that delivered a 110-point thrashing to Geelong last time out.

"It's going to be a great opportunity for our guys, especially on the back of last week's effort," Solomon said of the Suns' chances.

"We were really disappointed with the way we went and it's how players respond now."
