Suns set to face their AFL travel demons

Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade says his side are ready to make amends to their poor form on the road when they take on Hawthorn in the AFL.

Gold Coast will face their demons of playing on the road head-on when they shape up against Hawthorn in the AFL this weekend.

The Suns have only won two of their 11 matches at the MCG and the last victory came in 2014.

Despite thrashing the Hawks by 86 points in round three, Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade understands the tough task they face on Saturday afternoon.

"We've spoke about (our form on the road) we need to address it, it's a mindset I've got no doubt - we've won once on the road and we need to be more consistent with our travel," Eade said.

The Suns have four wins so far this year, with three of them coming from fixtures at home.

The Gold Coast have travelled to Shanghai and Alice Springs already this season and Eade expects to face a very different Hawthorn team to what they saw in April.

"They're playing differently from when he played them, they've strung some wins together and played some good footy," Eade said.

"We think it will be a very tough contest and if we get over the line by a point I'll be very happy.

The Hawks have struggled for wins, both home and away, and it took them until round five to register their first win of the season.

Alastair Clarkson's side sit in 16th place, one spot below the Suns, making a finals berth unlikely but have restored some pride with wins over Sydney, Melbourne and West Coast.

The Suns' finals hopes, meanwhile, sit on a knife-edge.

They are two wins outside the top eight, but inconsistent performance on the road has been mirrored by their efforts on the field.

Gold Coast's work-rate and effort at the contest has regularly been called into question by their veteran coach and he expects a strong showing against the Hawks.

"Consistency is a constant battle for us, but we're confident enough that the players will turn up and realise this is a vital game for us," Eade said.
