Suns to rest stars for Lions clash

Gold Coast will rest several players including dual Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett for Sunday's AFL pre-season clash with Brisbane.

Several Gold Coast stars, including captain Gary Ablett, are set to be rested for Sunday's AFL pre-season clash with rivals Brisbane in Townsville.

Suns coach Guy McKenna said Ablett, along with 2013 rising star Jaeger O'Meara and David Swallow, were all but certain to miss the game against the Lions after their efforts against Essendon on Monday.

The trio were central to the Suns' one-point win over the Bombers on a humid evening on the Gold Coast and McKenna said he'll use Sunday's match to try out some of the club's new faces including draftee Kade Kolodjashnij.

"Given it's a short week if you like, another flight, there's some players we'll look after," McKenna said.

"Most of those will be midfielders. Probably Gary, Jaeger, David Swallow, Michael Rischitelli, they'd be four off the top of my head that won't be travelling. I don't think they need to."

Along with No.5 pick Kolodjashnij, McKenna believes Sunday's game will give players such as Harley Bennell and Seb Tape to prove their worth.

"Harley Bennell should be right. Seb Tape should be right," he said.

"We'll obviously throw some new faces in the midfield ... obviously Sean Lemmens, if he's right he'll play again. Kade will get a run as well."
