The Queensland cabinet will meet on the Sunshine Coast this week, visiting the key battleground ahead of an upcoming election.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says cabinet will focus on restoring frontline services and creating local jobs during the trip.

About $1 billion in infrastructure spending has been allocated for the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions, much of it on highway upgrades, which the premier says will create 2,066 jobs.

"In terms of job creation, we have worked with industry, businesses and the Council to create new opportunities," she said

"By working together we have reduced the unemployment rate (on the Sunshine Coast) from 7.3 per cent at the last election to 5 per cent."

Most seats in the region are held by the LNP opposition and also in the area is One Nation's Steve Dickson, who defected from the LNP in January.
