Super changes to help the terminally ill

The federal government will change regulations to allow people whose doctors say they only have 24 months to live to access their superannuation early.

Australians with a terminal illness will find it easier to access their superannuation from July.

A new regulation will let them access their superannuation early if medical advice shows they have 24 months to live - up from 12 months now.

The change would make it easier for women with a secondary breast cancer diagnosis in particular, Assistant Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said on Thursday.
