Super League derby win puts Hull on top

Australians Mark Minichiello and Steve Michaels have each scored two tries as Hull continued their recent Super League derby domination.

Hull went back to the top of the Super League and condemned their arch-rivals to a bottom-four finish with a resounding 36-12 victory in the 229th Hull derby.

Australians Mark Minichiello and Steve Michaels scored two tries apiece and half-back Marc Sneyd pulled the strings as the Black and Whites cruised to a fifth successive derby triumph against Hull Kingston Rovers in front of a 17,481 crowd at the KCOM Stadium.

After suffering surprise back-to-back defeats, Hull answered their critics in emphatic fashion to displace Wigan at the top while the other beneficiaries were Wakefield, whose place in the top eight is guaranteed ahead of their trip to Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

Not even the shock re-appearance of goalkicking winger Josh Mantellato, three weeks ahead of schedule, could help Hull KR, who must fight for survival in the Qualifiers for a second successive season and were subjected to taunts of "going down, going down" from the home fans.
