Super's not a piggy bank: PM tells Labor

Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen will use his traditional post-budget reply speech to warn that superannuation tax breaks will soon outstrip the age pension.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says Labor should stop trying to use superannuation as its piggy bank.

Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen will use his traditional post-budget replay speech on Wednesday to warn that tax breaks on super will soon outstrip the age pension as one of the biggest burdens on the budget and argue they need to be scaled back.

"The Labor party should wake up to the fact that superannuation savings belong to the people who worked hard ... and stop seeing Australians super as a piggy bank that they can raid whenever they are in trouble," Mr Abbott told reporters in Brisbane.
