Suspected gunman in Qld bushfire zone

A man who allegedly fired shots at police during a chase remains on the run in a bushfire zone in central Queensland.

A suspected gunman remains on the run in a bushfire zone near Rockhampton, with nearby towns closed off as police hunt for him.

The fugitive allegedly fired shots during a police chase near the central Queensland city early on Wednesday afternoon.

He then continued driving down the Burnett Highway southwest of Rockhampton.

A bushfire has since intensified in the Bouldercombe recreational reserve and police are hunting for him in nearby Mount Morgan.

The blaze has destroyed four properties and residents have been evacuated.

Police stopped people from entering and leaving the area, between the Burnett Highway, Razorback Road and Poison Creek Road.

No one was injured during the alleged shooting.

A Queensland policeman spokesman was unable to provide a description of the gunman.
