Police are waiting for the autopsy of an elderly man who was found dead in his home in Sydney's west on Father's Day.

Police were called to Dante De Mitri's home in North Parramatta on Sunday afternoon following concerns from his family, who had not seen him for a week and had gone to visit for Father's Day.

The 76-year-old was found lying face down in his townhouse.

Police say his death is being treated as suspicious.

Authorities have not indicated how long he had been dead before he was discovered.

Neighbours have described Mr De Mitri as a sweet and caring man.
