John Sutton will captain South Sydney in a pre-season NRL trial on Saturday just three weeks after being dumped from the role.

Sutton became the first premiership-winning captain to have the honour stripped from him in late January and was replaced by Greg Inglis.

Last week it emerged he was involved in a late-night incident during the team's training camp in Arizona during which he spent eight hours in jail.

However he will lead out a well below-strength Rabbitohs side during their trial against Queensland Cup champions the Northern Pride at Redfern Oval on Saturday night.

Glenn Stewart will also make his debut in the cardinal and myrtle after making an off-season switch from Manly.

Liam Coleman, the son of Rabbitohs great Craig, will play five-eighth while Damon Goolagong, the nephew of tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley, will line up at fullback.

Scott Sorensen is the nephew of former New Zealand internationals Kurt and Dane Sorensen.

Rabbitohs: Damon Goolagong, Setefano Taukafa, Aaron Gray, Daryl Millard, Sam Manuleleua, Liam Coleman, Jordie Hedges, Thomas Burgess, Scott Sorensen, PJ Lose, Glenn Stewart, John Sutton (c), Ben Lowe. Interchange: Wartovo Puara, John Olive, Cheyne Whitelaw, Angus Crichton, Tom Hughes, Thompson Teteh, Jack Gosiewski.
