Elina Svitolina has credited getting the mental part of her game right for a great 2017 that has culminated in her making the WTA Tour finals in Singapore.

The Ukrainian says her five title wins this year have given her a lot of that elusive quality that sportspeople crave - confidence.

"I won five tournaments this year. It was amazing year for me. Lots of good memories," she said.

"Of course there have been some very disappointing losses, as well. For me, you know, just the road to the top is never, you know, straight. It's always with some curves.

"The confidence comes of course with winning, but, you know, I try to work on my mental strength."

She says this ability has come through for her at the right time in a productive season.

"It's been really good thing for me that I improved, I think," she said.

"It's really worked well on the important tournaments, important finals this year. I had couple of them this year ... everything just clicked together."

Svitolina will play her first match on Monday at the Singapore event when she meets Caroline Wozniacki.

World No.1 Simona Halep plays Caroloine Garcia in the day's other match.
