David Swallow was the man who provided the fire in the Suns' midfield as they beat Geelong by 25 points in round nine of the AFL.
The 2010 No.1 draft pick has been the spark Gold Coast has longed for, acting in parts as Gary Ablett's bodyguard and midfield battering ram.
His physicality and tenacious approach exemplifies how Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade wants his side to play in 2017.
"David Swallow is really vital to us in the way he attacks the footy, I don't think he's got back to his best yet, that's going to take a bit of time," Eade said
"His leadership is born out of the way he goes about it ... his attack on the footy, he leads by example.
The West Australian starred in the Suns' 18.16 (124)-15.9 (99) win over Geelong with 23 disposals - 20 of these being contested - and 10 clearances.
He also booted one goal, a classy right footed snap, and Eade thinks there could be more to come.
"He's a warrior, isn't he," Eade said.
"I think he's kicking has dropped a little bit, he's spent so long out of the game (through injury).
"I've got no doubt that we can put him forward, I've got no doubt he can kick goals."
Eade said he was most impressed with his side's ability to keep attacking when the Cats mounted a comeback in the third quarter.
"It's about building some trust and belief in each other and that was the thing I was pleased with," Eade said.
"Our youngsters are really improving, but it's those experienced guys driving it, the trust and belief they've got in each other is starting to build."
