Swan residents under threat from bushfire

Residents of Gidgegannup, in the WA city of Swan, have been told to immediately evacuate their homes as a bushfire approaches.

Lives and homes are under threat from an out of control and unpredictable bushfire that is moving quickly westwards northeast of Perth.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has warned residents of Gidgegannup they are in danger and need to act immediately.

"The alert level for this fire has been upgraded as fire behaviour has intensified," the department said in an alert on Tuesday.

Homes in Burgess Road are currently under threat as the fire burns in inaccessible land and moves towards Brigadoon.

Residents have been told not to hesitate, but to leave now if the way is clear and travel east towards Gidgegannup.

"The bushfire is moving fast in a westerly direction. It is out of control and unpredictable," the statement says.
