Swan Tippett to miss another AFL game

Sydney Swans forward Kurt Tippett's injury interrupted campaign is continuing, with a knee issue ruling him out of Saturday's AFL home clash with Carlton.

Sydney spearhead Kurt Tippett has suffered another setback in his stop-start season and will miss the AFL ladder leading Swans' home match with Carlton on Saturday.

Tippett was a late withdrawal from last Sunday's game against West Coast in Perth and hasn't recovered from his latest knee issue in time to face the Blues.

"He's got a little bit of of bone inflammation, that's the reason why he's a little bit sore still," Sydney coach John Longmire said before training on Tuesday at the SCG.

"He's not going to play this week and we're hopeful of getting him after the bye (next week)."

Forward Tippett has played just five games this season.

He missed the first seven rounds of the season with knee and rib injuries.

Tippett, Sydney's leading goalkicker last season, kicked 12 goals in four games before knee surgery sidelined him for two more matches.

Tippett, who hasn't played on a losing Swans side this year, kicked 2.3 against GWS on his return, but his knee played up after he trained in Perth last week.

"He's a very important player for us and to take another step back and not get another game under his belt, is disappointing for him," Longmire said.

"But he'll deal with that, we'll deal with that."

Longmire hoped defender Rhyce Shaw and midfielder Dan Hannebery, both sidelined by ankle syndesmosis injuries, would be available for the blockbuster match against Hawthorn in Melbourne, the week after the Swans bye.

He expected rookie midfielder Zak Jones to be available for Saturday after he pulled up well from a bout of concussion that forced his early withdrawal from the Eagles game.
