Sydney midfielder Tom Mitchell has confirmed he wants to move to Hawthorn after a career-best AFL season.
The 23-year-old onballer, who is out of contract, has long been coveted by the Hawks and has faced months of speculation about his future.
"We learnt of Tom's preference today, so now we will discuss as a list management team what the next steps look like," Swans head of football Tom Harley said on Monday.
Mitchell played every game this season and was among the Swans' best in their grand final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
The son of former Sydney midfielder Barry Mitchell, he joined the Swans as a father-son selection in 2011.
It would be a major coup for Hawthorn if they can secure trades for Mitchell and their other priority midfield target, Gold Coast gun Jaeger O'Meara.
The Hawks would likely be forced to trade one or more of their best 22 players to secure both trades, given they only have one first-round draft selection at their disposal.
But Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright on Monday said classy forward Luke Breust would not be put up for trade.
The Hawks bolstered their big men stocks on Monday, signing Richmond forward-ruckman Ty Vickery as a restricted free agent.
