Swans' Bolton to retire from AFL

Sydney veteran Jude Bolton will finally retire from the AFL at the end of this season, with the Swans calling a media conference for Monday.

Sydney forward Jude Bolton will announce his impending AFL retirement on Monday, with the much-respected Swan deciding his battered body has had enough.

The Swans have called a media conference on Monday afternoon where Bolton will confirm he will retire once their season ends next month.

The 33-year-old is a two-time premiership player and renowned for being one of the game's toughest competitors.

He epitomises the Swans' "Bloods" culture that was created in 2003 and is at the heart of their ongoing success.

Bolton has played 321 games since his 1999 debut, second only to Swans games record holder and teammate Adam Goodes.

He nearly retired after last year's premiership, but decided to go on for one more season.

It is understood that Bolton's decision to retire was entirely his own.

Bolton missed Saturday's loss to Geelong because of injury, but is expected to return to the side for the pre-finals clash with Hawthorn at ANZ Stadium.
