Sydney have erred on the side of caution, resisting the urge to bring back former skipper Kieren Jack for Friday night's clash against Hawthorn.

Jack was criticised for his indifferent form as the Swans struggled early in the season before it was revealed he was carrying a hip injury.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined since round five with coach John Longmire keen to give him the best opportunity to have an impact when he returns.

"He did a fair bit of training and has pulled up well but we just thought he's maybe not quite right for a game just yet," Longmire said.

"We want to put more strength work into him over the next week or two before he's right for the next game.

"He should be right for the game after the bye."

The 12th-placed Swans made one forced change as they look to continue a three-game winning run.

First-round draft pick Oliver Florent comes in to replace Harry Cunningham, who has a foot injury.

Hawthorn will blood two new players on Friday night, coach Alastair Clarkson naming Dallas Willsmore and James Cousins for the SCG clash.

Willsmore, a 21-year-old winger and Cousins, an elevated rookie midfielder, are joined by key defender Kaiden Brand as Clarkson made three unforced changes following last week's loss to Collingwood.

Will Langford, Kurt Heatherley and Billy Hartung were dropped following the Pies' come-from-behind win.
