Swans smash Saints, eye Eagles in AFL

Sydney will take on AFL ladder leaders West Coast after their 71-point drubbing of St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Sydney have set up a tantalising clash against AFL ladder leaders West Coast with their 71-point smashing of St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

The Swans cemented their place in the top four with the 19.12 (126) to 7.13 (55) demolition in front of 27,569 fans in the annual Pride Game on Saturday night.

The Saints were brushed aside in a nine-goals-to-one first quarter blitz, but the Eagles will provide a far sterner test at the SCG.

"It's massive ... they come off a bye and we've got a six-day break going into Friday night footy," John Longmire said.

"They're the best team in the competition and we'll have to get everything right this week.

"It's a massive game ... we'll enjoy that challenge.

"You get to this point in the season where you want to be playing in these games against quality teams at the top of the ladder and we get that chance on our home deck."

The Swans spoiled the Eagles' house-warming party in the first AFL game for premiership points played at Optus Stadium in round one this season.

But Adam Simpson's men haven't lost a game since.

Sydney will take a five-game winning streak into the much-anticipated encounter.

They improved to a 9-3 record with their highest score and biggest wining margin of the season in the rout of St Kilda.

It all stemmed from a scintillating first term - the Swans' highest return for one quarter (9.1) this season.

"It was obviously our most efficient quarter for the year," Longmire said.

"That was with plenty of energy and plenty of efficiency with the ball. We've still got a few things to tidy up on, but it was certainly a pretty effective first quarter."

Josh Kennedy (31 possessions) and Isaac Heeney (27) were outstanding, while Lance Franklin was the leading goalkicker with four.
