Sydney coach John Longmire says Essendon counterpart James Hird's stand-off with the AFL over the Bombers supplements saga won't distract his side in their bid for back-to-back flags.

Longmire noted he, like every AFL player, official and pundit, was hoping for more clarity after Thursday's information meeting for club presidents in the wake of AFL charges laid against Essendon, Hird and three other Bombers officials.

"I guess I'm like everyone, we're just sitting back and still waiting .. to hear what's happening," Longmire said ahead of the Swans' top-four away clash with Geelong on Saturday.

"It's clearly a massive issue in football at the moment.

"I'm hoping that we can also talk about football at some point, but I understand the interest in it."

Longmire insisted the prospect of taking on Essendon in the finals hadn't crossed his mind.

The saga might be a black eye for the league, but Longmire made it clear that it would have no impact on him or his players.

"We're obviously two weeks out from the finals series beginning, and clearly our focus and our players' focus is on that," the third-year coach said.

"That's our job and what we'll be doing.

"We understand the seriousness of it, but we need to make sure we focus on football."
