NSW Swifts defender Sharni Layton has produced an incredible performance against Melbourne, sending the Vixens crashing to their biggest ever defeat trans-Tasman netball competition defeat.

Swifts climbed above defending champions Vixens into third in the Australian conference with a crushing 67-43 loss on a record-setting Sunday afternoon at Sydney's Allphones Arena.

A crowd of 10,370 eclipsed the previous competition regular season attendance of 10,118 set at the same venue last season for a Swifts-Thunderbirds game.

It was the Swifts' biggest score and largest winning margin against the Vixens, as they increased their lead in every quarter.

The result completed a perfect day for Swifts coach Rob Wright, after it was announced earlier on Sunday that his contract was being extended to the end of 2016.

"It's the best job in the world in my opinion. To top off with the game today, it's a nice weekend," he said.

Diamonds squad member Layton spearheaded a relentless defensive effort, as the Vixens were harried into numerous errors and trailed by as much as 26.

Layton, who leads the league in intercepts, added seven more and tallied four rebounds and four pickups.

"I thought she was unbelievable today," said Wright, who said it was Layton's best game in her two seasons with he Swifts.

Vixens coach Simone McKinnis said the Swifts were exceptional, but couldn't account for her team's poor effort.

"We just didn't perform and players not doing the job they were capable of," McKinnis told AAP.

"There was a little bit of being rattled and being a little bit panicked when there was no need and that did snowball for us."

Swifts' shooters Caitlin Thwaites (39/41) and Susan Pettitt (28/30) ensured the turnovers were converted.

Wright was shocked by the victory margin in what was the closest his team has come this year to a complete four-quarter performance .

"That was a one-off from Vixens in terms of the score," Wright said. I'm sure they will never lose by that again, they are just too good a side."
