World champion James Magnussen heads the list of leading Australian swimmers who will test their form at the NSW state championships ahead of the Commonwealth Games selection trials.
Five-time Olympic medallist Alicia Coutts features in a high class women's 100m freestyle field on day one on Friday, alongside fellow Olympians Bronte Barratt, Brittany Elmslie and Emily Seebohm.
James Magnussen will be aiming to continue his dominant form from last month's Aquatic Super Series in the men's 100m freestyle, also on day one at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
The competition comes barely a month out from the national championships in Brisbane from April 1, which double as selection trials for this year's Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Pan Pacific Championships on the Gold Coast in August.
New national head coach Jacco Verhaeren said he was keen to see some of Australia's best and rising stars show their wares.
"For many of our athletes and coaches this is their last real hit out before our trials in April, so they'll be looking at what they can work on and improve as part of their racing process," Verhaeren said.
"For sure it's going to give some good racing."
Heats start at 9am (AEDT) on Friday, with finals scheduled from 6pm (AEDT).
