Passengers at Sydney Airport are facing major delays with "technical" issues affecting security checkpoints at both international and domestic terminals.
Long lines filled Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on Friday morning, with both impacted by the glitch.
Qantas' domestic Terminal 3 has not been affected.
The issue prevented passengers from being processed for about two hours, but Sydney Airport said it had resumed screening just after 7.30am.
"We are working hard to catch up any delays," it tweeted.
"Please contact your airline for flight status. We appreciate your patience this morning."
Virgin Australia said it was holding some flights to minimise disruptions and was working to re-accommodate those affected.
"There may be some delays as a result, however guests are advised to arrive at the airport as planned for their upcoming Virgin Australia flight," it posted on Twitter.
Jetstar expected the issue to create a backlog of up to two hours throughout the day.
"Our teams are working to get everyone to their destinations as soon as possible," a spokesman told AAP.
Sydney Airport is advising passengers to check with their airline for up-to-date information about their flights.
