Sydney city home to more than 200,000

The City of Sydney's population has shot past the 200,000 mark while 100 new homes are being built in the city's centre every week.

Sydney's inner-city population has doubled in the past two decades, feeding a frenzied housing boom in the city's centre.

Official figures show the city's population shot through the 200,000 mark in June - up from 198,000 in April and 101,500 in 1995.

State government figures also show 100 new homes being completed each week in central Sydney, counting for a fifth of all new homes across greater Sydney.
