Sydney courts open despite riot squad

Operations at Sydney's Downing Centre have returned to normal following the arrival of riot squad police to deal with possible disruption to a number of court appearances.

The riot squad was called in this morning following a tip-off and police confirmed an operation, not related to terrorism, was under way.

Five riot squad trucks arrived at the court complex in the CBD just after 9.30am.

But, court proceedings are continuing as usual and there've been no evacuations.

The incident was not terrorism related.
