Sydney family ducks for cover from shots

Police say they don't yet know why a home in western Sydney was targeted by shooters in the middle of the night.

A Sydney household was forced to duck for cover behind a couch when a home was peppered with bullets in the middle of the night.

Four people, believed to be a mother, father, daughter and a friend, were inside the Bossley Park home in the city's west when the shooting occurred at 1.20am on Monday.

Detective Inspector Martin Hayston said there was about a five-minute delay between two bullets going through an upstairs window.

"The occupants were asleep at the time but no one was injured," he told AAP.

Nawal Mizyed explained she was hugging one of the occupants at her home after a bullet came through the window when the shooting started again.

"I came to the room and I saw she was shaking ..." she told the Nine Network.

"And we move a bit further and another shooting, so I duck behind the couch and thought it was going to come inside again."

Police say the family has been co-operating with investigators but at this stage they don't know why they were targeted.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Operation Talon by calling 1800 802 980.
